Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator (Salt System)
What is it?
Our Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator is a revolution in hot tub (spa) water sanitation. Instead of using numerous chemicals to maintain clean, clear water in your spa, the only chemical you add to your spa water is salt – and even this is only once a year!
That’s right! Salt is the only chemical needed to maintain your spa water. Though, with Blu Fusion, you use Sodium Bromide (NaBr) rather than Sodium Chloride (NaCl), what you commonly call “table salt.”
Even better, our Tru Blu sodium bromide comes from the Dead Sea, fabled for its regenerative, healing, and healthy waters.1
Our Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator converts sodium bromide into bromine. Bromine is the sanitizing agent in your spa. Simple!
How does it work?
Our Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator has three primary components – the electronics, control display, and electrode cell.
The electronic box is commonly installed in place of an ozonator.
The display is often installed in the equipment bay door.
The electrode cell is installed in the plumbing commonly used for an ozonator.2
Once the Blu Fusion components are installed, you add approx. 5 lbs.3 of Tru Blu sodium bromide (the “salt”) to your spa. In addition to adding the “source” for bromine, adding Tru Blu salt makes the spa water electrically conductive.
While your spa is in circulation mode (filtration mode), spa water is passed through our Blu Fusion electrode. Using a small electrical current (no more than in a standard 9-volt battery) our Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator converts sodium bromide salt to bromine.3 It’s really just that simple!
Our Blu Fusion is highly adjustable with settings from 0 – 12. This allows you to adjust your production of bromine to the sanitation load (aka “bather load”) in your spa. Most often, Blu Fusion is set in the 2 – 6 range but higher settings are available if you are using your spa a lot or in larger spas.5
Why is bromine better?
We should start by noting that the EPA approves ONLY three6 chemicals for water sanitation in pools and spas (hot tubs). These are chlorine, bromine, and biguanide. Here is more information on all three. Blu Fusion uses bromine as the sanitizing agent in your spa.
Even though chlorine is more commonly used, bromine is the superior chemical for spa sanitation!
Bromine compared to chlorine:
- Because bromine is a liquid at spa temperatures it is more stable and remains in the water.
- Chlorine is a gas and off-gasses at normal spa temperatures of 95 – 104 degrees.
- Bromine is relatively unaffected by pH outside the proper range of 7.2 – 7.6. It continues to kill bacteria and other pathogens when pH is outside this range.
- Chlorine rapidly loses its ability to kill bacteria and other pathogens as pH rises. Even at a pH of 7.8, it has lost close to 75% of its bacteria killing efficacy.
- By-products of bromine have little odor and, in fact, also continue to kill bacteria.
- By-products of chlorine are quite noxious and do nothing to kill bacteria.
Bromine compared to biguanide:
- Unlike biguanide, bromine is an oxidizer. Not only does bromine kill bacteria, it also removes the various biologic waste products that develop in a pool or spa. The includes dead bacteria, dead skin cells, etc. – all of which are a food source for bacteria unless they are removed.
- Unlike biguanide, bromine is simple to use.
- Biguanide is known to require extreme precision to be effective.
Where can I purchase Blu Fusion?
You can purchase our original Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator via several internet retailers. However, our newest, and top-of-the-line, Blu Fusion TS Complete is only available through BluWater certified spa dealers. It carries a 3-year warranty covering everything including the electrode cell and sacrificial anode.
BluWater Technology products not installed by one of our certified dealers carry a 1-year warranty.
Footnotes:
- Here’s a quick, fun fact for you. There is so much salt in the Dead Sea that you literally cannot sink in its waters. Our Tru Blu salt is simply sourced by evaporating some of the Dead Seas’ waters.
- Note: An ozonator is not used with our Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator. It is not needed.
- Tru Blu is added to your spa water at the rate of 1.2 lb. per 100 gallons.
- Chemically, the “bromine” in a spa is hypobromous acid, but the pool & spa industry commonly calls it bromine.
- Our Blu Fusion Automated Bromine Generator is more than capable of properly sanitizing both standard hot tubs, which are generally around 200 – 600 gallons, and swim spas up to 2,500 gallons.
- Anyone suggesting a chemical-free method to sanitize pool or spa water is talking nonsense! Sodium bromide is the only chemical in a Blu Fusion spa, but it’s still a chemical.
